Fuyao Group and FGI began diversifying in different glass industries. In 2019, FGI and First Solar, the largest American manufacturer of Solar Panels, signed a contract in which FGI was supplying 5 million pieces of cover glass to First Solar which began in March 2020. With this expansion FGI created over 50 additional full-time positions. In addition, numerous contracted services within the community were awarded bids in support of the construction of two (2) new cover glass fabrication lines here in Decatur. The cover glass fabrication lines take the float glass and process it by grinding the edge, laser drilling 2 holes and then going through a tempering process. When the cover glass is finally fabricated into the solar panel, it provides structural strength for the entire solar panel. The project proved to be successful and prosperous. Within a year FGI increased production, supplying over 6 million pieces per year to First Solar’s facility in Perrysburg, Ohio.

 

 

As green energy has become more popular and desired, First Solar reached out to FGI for another 5 million pieces per year through 2028. After careful consideration, Fuyao agreed to initiate another project to satisfy this demand. FGI invested another 31 million USD, in a 77,000 square foot area in the manufacturing space which created another 51 jobs.
